Tonya Brogan – MVP Feature Story

Sports Travel Is In Her DNA
Tonya Brogan Brings Unique Skills To MVP
By David Driver

While her family was stationed overseas, Tonya Brogan employed her dental background on an American military base in Italy where her husband Bob was stationed.

But it was her career in another realm that appealed to MVP International when her family moved to Northern Virginia in 2014 – and connected with long-time baseball coach Mark “Pudge” Gjormand.

“They thought I only had a dental background, which I had,” Brogan said of meeting Gjormand, the founder of MVP. “But before that, I was a certified Travel Agent.”

Brogan worked as a Travel Leisure Specialist throughout Virginia and Colorado, with a focus on destinations such as Disney, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. She planned total vacation packages and enjoyed the challenge of turning dreams into reality for her clients.

That skillset was discovered by MVP International after her son, Noah, played Little League and travel baseball for Gjormand.

“They found out about my travel background, which is when I started collaborating with Eli,” she said of former Madison High baseball player Eli Facenda, the Chief Enrollment Officer for MVP International.

Once her son began playing Little League in Virginia, Brogan and her family connected with the MVP travel program.

The family made its first trip with MVP International to Germany as Noah was a member of the baseball travel team in 2017. He also played with MVP with trips to The Netherlands in 2019 and to Hawaii last year.

“It’s awesome to be able to travel the globe, while representing the USA and to share with our other cultures, what baseball is like in our country,” Noah Brogan says.

“Even though Noah played several sports around Europe, when we lived in Italy, it was nice for him to be able to come directly from the States with his teammates here (in the USA) and travel overseas and compete in Germany,” his mother notes.

“It was also pretty exciting for our family to have the opportunity to travel globally with a team and to share Noah’s passion for baseball, while representing the United States. Connecting cultures through sports is an incredible experience for the entire family.”

Noah Brogan is now a senior middle infielder at South Lakes High in Reston, Virginia, and recently committed to Florida Southern, a top Division II program in Lakeland, Florida.

The head coach of Florida Southern is Lance Niekro, who played for the San Francisco Giants from 2003-07. He is the son of former MLB All-Star pitcher Joe Niekro and the nephew of Phil Niekro, who also pitched in the majors and is in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Noah Brogan was impressed with the top-notch business school and baseball program at Florida Southern, which last won the national title in Division II in 2005.

The recruiting coordinator for the school is Steven Crabtree, an assistant coach who attended the University of Central Florida.

The Brogan family already has one child in Florida: daughter Makayla is a student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando – majoring in Graphic Design. She played field hockey and lacrosse at South Lakes High.

Tonya Brogan and her family lived in Vicenza, which is about an hour west of Venice. While stationed in Italy, the family traveled throughout Europe and cruised the Mediterranean on several occasions.

Now she is trying to make travel dreams come true for MVP International clients.

“The sales team, with Eli, MVP President Matt (Foley) and Pudge create the trips and prepare the athletes and coaches,” she notes. “Once they get a group that’s ready to go, I start the planning and booking process.”

From there, she works with MVP staff members such as Tara Novak, the Operations & Flights Manager, to get those trips off the ground. And relying on her three years in Italy certainly comes in handy.
