MVP International Enrollment Coordinator was part of memorable trips to Spain, Ireland

VIENNA, Virginia – Matt Wojceichowski was heavily involved in the planning and implementation of trips this summer to Spain and Ireland for MVP International, a leader in overseas sports youth travel.
And both trips turned out to ultra-successful – on and off the playing surface.
The MVP International boys’ basketball team won its division at a tournament in Spain while last month a girl lacrosse team went 9-0 and captured a title during a festival in Limerick, Ireland last month.
“Both were extremely awesome experiences,” says Wojceichowski, a veteran coach with MVP baseball events. “Both trips were fantastic. Life is slower in Europe than it is here. In Spain, it is quicker than it is in Ireland.”
Wojceichowski played baseball at both South Lakes High in Reston, Virginia and at Division III Roanoke, in the southwest part of the state. So, getting to be part of the trip to Ireland enhanced his knowledge of lacrosse.
“That was really neat for me personally and helps me expand my role here at MVP,” he says. “First of all, it is good for the company. It is awesome to see those girls get to do that; I wish I could have done (a trip) growing up. It was just unbelievably to be honest with you; I had never been around lacrosse that much. I am now a big lax fan.”
The MVP International trip to Ireland coincided with the World Championships for 21U for men. The USA team won the title with two players from the University of Virginia: Danny Parker and Quentin Matsui. And the MVP team was able to meet the champion USA men’s squad.
“To see those college guys playing at that high level and ultimately winning gold was really cool,” Wojceichowski notes. “To be part of the World Lacrosse Festival … our first practice there were five or six fields. The field next to us was used for Japan versus Puerto Rico. They were getting after it and the fans were sitting up on the hill watching the game getting rowdy.”
But it was memorable moments away from the green playing fields of Ireland that left an impact on the MVP International group, which included parents and siblings of some of the players.
“To be able to see the Cliffs of Moher and do a walking tour of Dublin and Limerick … there is a lot of history over there, which is really neat,” Wojceichowski says. “We were able to participate in the Gaelic Games; they kind of taught us hurling, handball and football. We got to play all three – we had a fantastic time.”
“To take it one step further, when we went to Limerick for the lacrosse festival they had the Gaelic Games Hurling,” he adds. “There were a couple hundred people and it was high intensity game in the semifinals. The winner goes to the finals and loser ends the season. So, for the girls to experience that sport, it was a really neat experience for our group.”
There was one other American girls’ team in the lacrosse festival.
“We got to meet another girls’ lacrosse group from Boston that was there for the Festival. Their experience was different than ours,” Wojceichowski says. “We were over there for the same reason but they were not able to do the extra things we were able to do, like the Cliffs of Moher, and visit Bunratty Castle. They landed in Dublin and went to straight to Limerick. They were at the University the entire time without seeing the sights.”
“It gives you an appreciation of the product we are putting out there. We got rave reviews from the parents, which it is all about. It was a fantastic trip all the way around. My girlfriend got to go; it was her trip out of the country and she was eating it up,” he adds.
He said taking part in tours of Jameson and Guinness were also a highlight.
“Both were fantastic. There are pubs everywhere in Ireland,” Wojceichowski says. “To be in the same atmosphere with the locals, eating local food while downing a Jameson was really cool.”
And so was being part of two titles with MVP International trips in Europe this summer.
